A technology startup started in 1998 called ZBSoft was best known for producing a product called ZBServer a Intranet/Internet piece of software for Microsoft Windows 3.11 , 95 98 and NT.
Big selling points for zbserver pro was low cost and very little system overhead, small footprint.
DOS attack vulnerabilities of zbserver included:
A buffer overflow vulnerability first discovered in version 1.5. Zbsoft appears to have patched this error in early 2000 and ZBServer Pro was still being run on a small number of web servers around the world in 2003.
Despite an extensive feature list and low cost and overhead ZBserver appears to have gone the way of many other computer applications, ZBSoft is no longer in business and ZBserver does not appear to have any support.
This application may be compared to applications like WAMP or IIS for Microsoft Servers.
ZBserver existed in a period of the internet’s development when connecting a web server to the internet via dial up or DSL was more common. A stark contrast to this age of blade servers with 24/7 gigabit connections for serving up content and literal terabytes of RAM.
Windows® Magazine selected ZBSoft®'s ZBServer Pro Edition as one of the 100 Best Shareware Programs for 1998!
